About This Game World War I is a real-time strategy based on the modified version of the well-known Blitzkrieg engine. Humanity did not know any military conflicts similar to this one: the interests of dozens of countries got involved. For the first time, tanks, aviation, dreadnaughts and chemical weapons were used in battle. Warfare has become really massive. World War I lasted 4 long years and as a result, 3 Empires disappeared from the world map. The game World War I covers these historical events of 1914-1918 in over 30 missions grouped into 3 campaigns and one additional chapter. As a commander leading the forces of Germany, Russia or Allies, the player must be prepared to prove their military leadership skills on the battlefields of Europe. A wide range of tactical elements is at your disposal: organize the baseline, set priorities in targets and set up advanced defense lines. After chapter 1 of the entente, the game crash back to desktop. :o(. Decent, but flawed.The Blitzkrieg engine is not very suitable for the first world war as the original game had a heavy emphasis on tank warfare. This means that tanks are present in most scenarios, which is historically very inaccurate, especially in early war missions. Tanks are definitely a necessity for the gameplay to be somewhat engaging, but this just means that WW1 was probably a poor choice due to the static nature of the actual war with vehicles being mostly undeveloped.While playing I often felt very frustrated at the slow tactics the game requires you to use with constant slow advancing, using binoculars, artillery fire or repairing vehicles. It also feels like some of the functionality of the engine has been lost as your units often fail to act.Still, it's a decent (somewhat arcady) strategy game and worth a look at this price - especially, if you have played Blitzkrieg and enjoyed it.. I was looking for a game that reminded me of this game I played back in the 90's called Close combat. I found this game and purchased it. The gameplay is pretty close to close combat, but differs somewhat than cc. Obvious reasons are they cover different wars. Also, you don't get to pick and choose which units you want to use and deploy for upcoming battles like in cc. But, this is a very fun game, if you have the time to plan out all your attacks and how to use your artillery.. I highly recommend this game for the fans of the Blitzkrieg game series. However, there are some blatant inaccuracies: as an example, you begin the German campaign (in 1914) with a few A7V tanks (and other armored vehicles) whereas they did not exist at that time. The same is true for other campaigns. On the tactical level you often end up doing the same operations all over again: since direct confrontation might likely result in heavy casualties you have no choice but to assemble all of your artillery cannons and proceed to an complete bombardment of a specific area and only then can you send troops in there. Reconnaissance operations are only possible with planes. Additionally, you have to manually order your supply and repair trucks to resupply otherwise they will run out of resources and remain immobile. Unfortunately there is no map editor (as opposed to Blitzkrieg). Such a feature would have been very appreciated. Despite these flaws the game playable. ✠GOTT MIT UNS ! âœ
